I am looking for some suggestions on a new wheel set and disc brakes. Some revelant info: I ride XC singletrack here in Mass, no radical drops or racing. I am a clydesdale--6'1--230lbs. Currently riding Mavic 225 with Coda hubs and Avid V brakes. So far I haven't been able to knock the 225's out of true in 2 years. I am considering lacing them up to a new set of hubs and going from there. I am debating between XT disc hubs and CK Iso Disc, but not set on them. Of course $$ and weight are a consideration.
Any ideas, or opinions?

If you are riding singletrack (no DH) than Avid Mech. disks are the way to go. Awesome stopping power and maint. free. They retail almost everywhere for +/- $70 each, and you can use your existing levers with them. ;D
Do you have a $$$ amount in mind for the wheels? If you can live with a weight penalty, Pricepoint has the XT disc hubs laced to Rhyno-lites or Rhynos cheap:

No $$ amount in mind. I will spend what I need to get the job done right, but don't want to spend more than needed. I don't mind giving up a little weight as I am total sub 24 now.

Bub, I'd go with the hayes HFX9 Xc brakes.
I've been running hayes on my bikes for about a year with no problems. For the price of the avid mech's and the levers, they run you about 100 stinks.
http://www.universalcycles.com has these hayes hydraulic brakes for around 110 stinks.
I'm also having them build me a tubeless wheelset which consists of XT disc hubs and mavic D3.1 rims for about $300
so basically for around $500 you'll have an awesome wheelset with the option of running tubeless (if you want to create some pain for yourself) or tubes. Awesome deal I think.

If cost is an issue I would go w/ the ryno lite & XT w/ avids as Steve reccomended. I believe Couch runs this setup on a couple of his bikes and has had great luck w/ it. You dont need to buy new levers, you can use the ones you have on your bike now.
If cost is no object go w/ the king hubs laced to the rim of your choice (I'd stay away from xc "race" rims) and go from there. I'd still stick w/ the Avid mechanicals even if you have major cash to spend. IMO hydraulic brakes are overkill for non DH applications.

I would NOT waste the time lacing up 2 year old rims to brand new hubs.
If you have the $$$ go for the Kings. I run them on two bikes and love them. They are the lightest and strongest hubs you can buy. The biggest advantage of them by far is the Ring Drive. 72 engagement points on the freehub, XT has 18. So, you get 4 times the engagement points and virtually no dead spots when you need to put the power down. That and Chris King is probably the most Enviromentally Sensitive manufacturer of bicycle components in the world. The run the cleanest manufacturing facility in the state of California, and only source materials from like minded companies, ie. no aluminum from huge open pit mines in Eastern Europe that are notorius for pollution.
You will pay a little more for the King but you can feel good about where your money has been spent. King hubs are warrantied for 5years, I beleive Shi*mano is 2years.

Actually, I'm using Sun Singletrack on 3 bikes. Pretty decent rims and cheap/light (relatively) too.
I second the Avid suggestion. I'd go a step further and say they are fine for DH as well. I've got em on my wife's DH bike and my spare DH rig. No problems and PLENTY power.

I stand corrected.

Actually, I changed my mind. I'm goin with the King hubs. All that talk about engagement points has me all pumped up. I'm building a bike that's going to end up costing 3500 stinks, so I'm gonna go the extra mile. Thanks for twisting my arm GUNGE.

I think I am set with the Sun Singletrack and the Avid Mech. By the way would have never thought to look at them without your suggestions. Now the final nagging question....are the CK really worth $300.00 more that the XT? I know they are a fantastic hub and great company,.....but are they worth that much extra money?
