I'm thinking about putting a suspension fork on my old Fisher HKII, which has the big non-standard headset. Anyone know of a shop which may have either:
Fork with 1 1/4" steer tube-
OR
An adapter which will make it work with standard 1 1/8" fork.........?????

TIA

I know I can get caught up pushing Chris King, but this is an ideal situation.

Chris King makes a 'De-Evolution' headset that fits 1 1/4" frames and reduces the I.D. to 1 1/8". You get the best headset on the market AND you can use any fork you want. ;)

Is this an a-head or older-style head?

I'm not sure if you can get 'GripNuts' for the De-Evolution. But, they make them to convert any other of their headsets to a threaded setup so they might.

Figure about $100 for the King but, you will NEVER(10yr warranty) need to replace it. Either way you may be better off going threadless as more forks are available. Maybe a fork upgrade to the primary rig and donate the old fork to the HKII? Or, there are used forks everywhere for under $100. Personally, I think keeping a classic and TRUE Fisher(Non-Trek) MTB running is priceless. I have a 1989 Fisher Procaliber that is waiting for me to put it back together.

Yeah I think this one I bought in 89 0r 90 whichever year they offered it in white or blue its white although I did some rustole'yum touchn' up otherwise its in pretty good shape.
I may look into finding some replacement decals and getit painted right....Just cant love that rigid feel again..........I'm thinkin maybe if I had some cush up front and throw on onea my old USE's I may be even able to ride it on the trail again..........

A word of caution should you decide to go with CK gripnuts, you can't use a spacer type cable-hanger (if this is the current set-up for the canti brakes). Hopefully you have one of those old stems with the integrated cable hanger...
