ANyone have a POS Shimano m440 crank? What I thought was going to be a simple changing of the 32t middle ring has become a pain in the ass. The small ring has these odd bolts that attach it to the middle ring, and I don't have any idea what I need to remove them. The inside of the bolts are ROUND and not allen shaped. Is there another tool I have to buy? ???

you have to get a special wrench for the chainring bolts. go to the shop and ask them about it. they'll have one in their tools. you can either buy one for around $4-8, get teh shop to change em, or you can make your own too. it would help if you had a model to follow though so you might want to barrow someone else's if you choose to do this. shimano and park make models. i have a park one cause i plan on switching out my bash for a bigring on a few rides so it's nice to ave one at home. if it's a onetime thing, then you might just want to have the shop do it.

After more review last night, the 22t ring has rivits attaching it to the 32t middle ring. I guess I can throw away both of them as the 32t rings teeth are shot. >:(

Next questions: Will 4-bolt Truvativ rings work with a 4-bolt Shimano m440 crankarm? I have 2 old sets of rings (one almost new) that are the same size (22/32/44). Will square Truvativ 5D crankarms work with a shimano square BB?

I'm going to replace the crank and BB sometime, (probably during the winter) and I am looking for a temp. fix to allow me to ride with a middle ring up 'tll the snow flies. Help!!

Problem solved! Bikeman has the crankarms and rings for a total of $35 including shipping. ;D

Bikeman rocks !

Stop in the shop if you're ever in Woolrich. It's right on Rte 1 north after the Bath bridge. Well worth the stop even just to look around.

I go near there every summer on the way to Reid State Park. They always seem to have deals on stuff on the website. A field trip may be necessary.

The Mainers all look at me funny whilst I jump around the rocky coastline there at Reid. I would like to get a picture hopping a gap with a wave crashing behind me. Be carefull there those rocks can really chew through tires, and skin.

How about going to Acadia and hucking thunder hole while the tide comes in? That would make a sweet pic!
