Ok, like a good little bike techie, I greese parts before puting them back on. Unfortunately the pedals don't move. Any advice on how to budge them? Someone suggested to try and hammer the pedal wrench with the a mallet, but that did nothin. Another suggestion I got was to put a pipe on the wrench to give it more leverage. I am open to anything else at this point. I have a feeling I will be visiting the shop soon though.

I've dealt with stuck pedals before by removing the crankset, putting it in a vise and uncrew the pedals using a 3 ft long metal pipe over the standard park pedal wrench for extra leverage. (using all my weight)

When I did this sparks / smoke flew out of the threads. It was pretty cool !!!!!!!!

PB Blaster. You can get it from any autoparts store. Spray it on, let it soak in for a few minutes and it should come loose. Putting the crank arm in a vise probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Use more leverage, a pipe or whatever you have, and be careful.
Remember, Right crank arm - lefty "loosey"
Left crankarm - righty "loosey"
Next time, don't tighten those pedals so much...

Thanks for the info. I like the PB Blaster idea, think I will try that. I have about a week until the new pedals come in. Since I don't have any pipe handy or a vise. No room for a work bench in the new condo.

If that doesn't work, get a bigger hammer. A 2 pound mini sledge should loosen any bolts. But make sure you use a craftsman wrench so that you can get a free replacement if you break it.

try this i have seen it work once.lay the bike on its side from the inside of the crank take the largest phillips head screwdriver and place it end of the pedal where the L or R is stamped and give it a few whacks with a hammer. similar to tapping a stuck jar. i have seen a pair of stuck pedals come out.

Even better, have someone else keep torquing on it while you whack the end of the pedal axle -- the combination of the sharp blow and the torque should bring it out if anything will.

Hey all, thanks for all your help. Unfortunately nothing we tried budged these pedals. They are practically welded to the crank arms. Oh well, guess I will need new cranks to put my new pedals on... oh darn <<snaps fingers>>. I figured I would try to salvage these but I kinda knew it was a lost cause. Thanks for you help guys!!

You all also might want to try adding some heat to the bolt with a propane torch. This always works great on stuck bolts on my jeep.

be real careful with a flame on aluminum cranks or you will end up with a puddle of cranks on the floor.... check w knucklebusta and see if you can borrow his crack torch.
