I'm in Colchester over the long weekend and heard Camp J. is the place to ride in the immediate area. I plan to head over there solo Saturday afternoon but would love to hook up with some one who knows the trails.

Anyone know it and interested in showing someone around?

Sorry I missed this when you posted it. I ride Camp J a lot. How did it go?

It went OK. I started on the St. Michael's loop and was not really sure where to go from there until I met up with some guys who took me to the Sunny Hollow trail head across from the Dynastar building. They had to go so they gave me some directional pointers and cut me loose. All I could think was the guy's parting words: "there must be 100 miles of trails in there". I rode for about 45 minutes and really enjoyed the terrain, but all I could think of while I was riding was getting back out and not getting lost. Thankfully, I made it out and back to the St. Mike's loop then to the dorm parking lot where I had parked. All in all a good experience, but I broke a cardinal rule of mine by barrelling into a place I knew nothing about. I wish I had posted something earlier in the week. My loss. I'm up in VT a lot over the summer and look forward to getting back to Camp J. next year.

The 100 miles is more like five or so all told. Be aware that you're poaching while on the federal land and stay off the sand roads if you don't want to be written up or run over by an APC.

The Army's in negotiations with VMBA to legitimize at least some of the trails; we'll see what comes of that.

I'm back in the area for the week. Anyone interested in, or already planning to get out to Camp J on Thurs, Fri or Saturday?

johnbryanpeters, are you out there?

Thanks,

Matthew
