There's an interesting article in this month's Dirt Rag detailing the Chris King factory. If you thought quality/durability were a reason for to go with CK, here's another: environmental conscience. The company has invested thousands and thousands of dollars to make their manufacturing process evironmentally friendly. They operate sans air conditioning and with low lighting; they discourage auto commutes by paying their employees to ride their bikes to work!
Sure, King parts are expensive but you get what you pay for...and then some.

I read an article on CK in Bike or MBA as well. Never realized how much they gave back. I've long known how good their product is but their business practices cement the deal. Nothing but CK for me (at least for headsets) from here on out.

There are a lot of companies doing the sustainability thing. Nike's headquarters is a green building with a grass roof, daylighting, recycled gray water etc. but Chris King seems to have real convictions for what they do. It isn't just a marketing gimic. By the way their hubs are expensive but good. Their headsets are not expenive at all when you consider you will never have to touch the thing. Before Chris King...twice yearly rebuilds and replace every other year. After Chris King...I almost forgot where the headset is.

That's encouraging. I am saving to build myself a wheelset. This news really helps justify which hubs I'll be buying.
I only wish they completed their product offering by making the last major set of bearings I'd like to soon forget about - Bottom Brackets! ...one can only hope.

Their web site says they have thought about making a bottom bracket but apparently there is a lot more involved and they have not been able to pull it off. Take a look at their site. They also have been talking about a wheelset and have some strong opinions about integrated headsets.
Very quirky company but hey, their priorities seem straight and they make a good product.

I have beaten the **** out of my 03 xtr bb, even after pedro's my Bottom bracket shell was full of water, but the bearings are still just as smooth as if they were new. Nevermind they feel better then any brand new bottom bracket I've ever had. They are expensive as hell, but you can definitely forget about them.
