I am in VT on vacation till Friday and am hoping to hook up with 'locals' for some trail riding. Anyone up for showing a flatlander around? I am staying in the Burlington area and would welcome any information about group/shop rides in the area -- including night rides.
Thanks,
Phresh (a.k.a. Matthew)

I know a group always rides the Kingdom Trails on Tuesday evenings. They leave East Burke Sports at 5:30. Well worth the hour and a half drive from B-town. They are always into letting folks join in the ride...
Also, call any of the shops in Stowe to find out about group rides up there. I haven't had a chance to ride there yet but hear the trails are stellar!
Have fun up there!

Thanks (to all) for the tips. I can't make the Tuesday pm thing in E. Burke due to a conflict but plan to do Kingdom Trails one morning this week. I've heard good things about Sleepy Hollow too. I'm also hoping to hook up with a local shop ride (Alpine Shop) Thursday evening. Destination tbd. Friday I'm off to Pedro's.

BTW, a group of about 6 couples hit KT yesterday for some tandemania! Some of us had ridden there before on tandems but others hadn't. What a hoot! Those tight/twisties and really tight/twisty on the double-bikes ;D

I did the Kingdom Trails on Monday. Wow. It was a little hot but it stayed dry. I was out there for 3 1/2 hours. I came back tres whooped. I parked at E. Burke Sports and did a counter clockwise loop starting at the Inn at the end of East Darling Hill Road. The guy in the shop layed out a '20 miler' which included a good chunk of the singletrack between Rts 5 & 114. Tody's Tour and Webs were standouts but so much was noteworthy it's hard to pick favorites. It was like someone reincarnated all the best twisty, fast and pristine singletrack sections and put them in one beautiful spot. It was definitely worth the trip (93 mi, 1hr 50m) from Burlington.

I got in a ride on the Kingdom Trails last Friday. Had a blast. I
had a newbie with me so we didn't do the black diamonds
but had a great time anyway (except for 3! flats but i won't
go there!). I highly recommend that place. We camped in
Maidstone S.P., not too far away and right on a pristine lake.
Did a Sleemans beer run up to Coaticook, Quebec, Canada.
Great stuff and can't find it in the states. Ride on! Oh yeah,
got my first ride on my new (used) purple GT Pantera and just
loved it. I could climb everything in sight on that thing. What
a blast! Keep the rubber side down...

Good deal on the KT trails, though how the heck did you get 3 flats?
FYI, Sleemans is available/exported to the states. Our local shop (in Bedford, MA) was getting the Cream Ale (by request of my wife) as well as the Lager. They haven't had it recently though. Ask your retailer to get you some! The Cream Ale really is good junk.

Thanks for the Sleemans tip. The 3 flats started even before I
left home. My friend doesn't have a mountain bike (doesn't have
any bike for that matter). I have one set up as a commuter. I
had a couple of old knobbies kicking around so I put them on
the commuter. That was my first mistake. Both of them blew
out the sidewall because they were so old. That's 2 flats. The
first flat was a pinch flat when I installed the old knobbies in
the first place. In spite of all that rotten luck (or bad decision
making), we had fun. tk

I'm going to ride the Kingdom Trails for a few days next week. Any recommendations for a place to stay?
