Lets talk fork overhaul....

How often should a fork be overhauled? and is it something an amauter mechanic can handle?

I've got an older manitou that works great but hasn't been overhauled in a couple years...I'm just looking to prolong its life...

Rock Shox said, as I recall, that their coil and oil models should be disassembled, cleaned, and the oil changed every twenty hours or so.

Based on my experience with their shocks, there's nothing that a reasonably competent back yard mechanic can't so, save perhaps replacing press-in bushings.
