I've always used hairspray but with all the wet weather I need an alternative (For my grips not my hair ;)) I've wired them on too like my old moto grips but that hasn't been very successful either. So you won't think I'm lazy, I searched this forum and found one reference to adhesives but no mention of what type.

What works well and cleans up well for the next set of grips too??

Thanks in advance

3M Weatherstrip Adhesive – it comes in a Red & White tube. Check your local autoparts store. A.K.A. Fasttack

Gungy is that 3m stuff like a contact cement?
I've had good luck using tubular tire cement.
Clean up isn't too bad, and grips stay put.
Those lock on grips are probably the best, but I have a box full of NEW Oury grips to use up before I switch to the lock-on type.

I agree w/ AA, it's more about the grips than the adhesive. Get dual compound and you won't have a problem. Another thing that helps is a BMX metal end cap/plug/protector. It's about the same diameter as the grip and protects the end from plugging with dirt (under the grip) if you crash or lay the bike over.

I've had wicked good luck with RaceFace Good and Evil grips. Love em! Also Profile dual density cheapo's are $6 at REI and work great and don't slip.

Oury feel aweome but will slip if you sneeze on em. They are soft and pliable all through so tend to move.

Yes. It's sticks really well but you can still get your grips off when needed. They used to have a similar product called Fasttack that I actually have used to glue tubulars.
I don't like Lock-Ons because of the hard plastic locking sleeve makes the grips feel like sh*t.
I actually just reverted to using Grab-On Mtn-2 grips. High Density foam hex grips designed by Gary Fisher back in '88. I had them on my '89 Paragon and didn't realize until recently that they still made them.

a few things to keep in mind;

the grips are a narrow diameter and the rubber compound isnt very soft, I like them but some people prefer bigger softer grips.

It says rapid fire shifter compatible only. I only use rapid fire so I'm not sure why they wouldnt work w/ grip shift.

Try this: Three coils of safety wire on each grip, pulled tight enough that it starts to embed in the grip. One .5" from the inside edge, one in the middle, and one .5" from the end of the bar. Works every time, often saves non-wired grips that come loose, and makes it irrelevant if you rip the end of the grip off on a fall in the rain - they still won't slip.

Keep in mind there are many different styles of lock on grips- "Ruffians" have the least amount of cushion and many people do not like them. At the other end of the spectrum Oury Odi lock ons have the biggest grip diameter, I've seen seven different styles of Odi compatible grips, plus shorty versions for twist shifters

for reg grips: i've heard great things about using laquer (spelling? the stuff you put on wood). it's like using glue cause unlike hairspray, you can't get the grip off again without destroying it. so if you have to change bars or shifters/brake levers, you'll need new grips.

odi lockons: they're a good idea. i have xxl hands and kinda like the ruffians grips, even though i haven't tried any of teh others, except i think the intense ones on a test ride, which felt good. i also like the reg. oury grips so i'm looking forward to trying the lockon version. they don't slide at all either

bad lockon things: the bolts suck. they are an odd size and i can't seem t find any new ones, and teh allen heads strip easily. odi should make the bolts out of stainless steel and make them torx bolts, of a common size. so just be careful when tightening the bolts, you can't torque them

I tried the lock-ons and had no complaint til a crash. Somehow my pinky got between a rock and the outer ring which is quite sharp - pretty much turned the finger into bloddy bruise. Took them off the next day and went back to some generic rubber grips with closed ends.

pretty good luck putting grips on dry with an air hose.

Oh, so its the grips fault that you crashed.

..last couple of pairs I've bought come with a rounded plastic plug which covers the metal lockring and helps to keep your hand from slipping off.

airhose is a good trick digger!

with regular grips I just epoxy glue them on and to take them off -just cut em', they are cheap.
