I've seen BENT shock bolts on Kona Stinkeys before but have not seen/heard of one actually breaking!
Where did it break?
How do the threads look in the link plate?
Photos?

It was a clean shear, just inside the plate. Threads looked fine. I didn't think to take photos before repair. (30 minute turn around by my LBS. Outstanding service) LBS and Kona are leaning towards the bolt being defective.

That's what it sounds like to me. For the bolt to fail in that location it must have had low shear point. Like I said I've seen them bent and that takes ALOT of force to do. I can't imagine what it would take to actually shear a bolt like that.
BTW,
How's the DAWG? I just built mine up and I love it!

Thanks for you reassurance! i hope its a once in a lifetime break. They way i ride, there's no way it was exxess force. I luv mine, I'm still gettin learing to ride it as I'm new to the suspension world. So far its the perfect bike for me, i was looking for / got what i call a heavy duty XC bike. Speed/weight not a factor for me anymore, reliabilty / rideablity (is that a word?) much more imprtant to me at this stage of my life.
I check out your DAWG porno....quite the bike you have!! mines strickly stock so far. Tires will be first to get upgraded.
