View Full Version : Is there any REAL freeding in MA?

Does anybody know where there's any real freeriding in MA besides Nam or Lynn? My riding buddies and I have looked all over the freakin' state and all we've found is fireroads, thick Cambodian jungle, and swamps. BLOOD SWAMP - stay away from there - jeesh. Creatures follow you from a distance around there. But besides Lynn woods (too far) and Nam (no parking), we're stuck as to where to go. NH is too far as well. I do most of my biking around the central MA area - and I know there's GOT TO be some hidden hucks and dirt jumps around there. Somebody must know someplace between Springfield and Framingham....

Dud this is the anti-fun state don't forget. Theres not much unless your into XC. In order to have some really good freeriding you got to build. And BUILDING IS A BIG NO NO in Massachusetts dud, someone might get hurt, someone might get SUED. SUE. SUE. SUE. SUE. The anti-fun state. Massachusetts. knuck

Boy this thread sounds familiar. I suggest that you post this topic on busted spoke (seeing that most of the folks on that forum are free riders). I think that you guys need to make more friends in the FR comunity as opposed to just bitching about it on line. There is lots of stuff out there, you just need to hook up with the people in the know. And yes you will have to pedal to get there.

Nope, none.
Maybe you should move to B.C., only, there's none there either. The only "freeriding" as I'm seeing it described here (no pedaling, endless pristine drops and jumps and no bugs) is on the cover of BIKE mag and in the Kranked videos. In the real world, it dosen't exist. There are bugs and swamps and you have to expend energy and pedal your damn bike.
Freeriding is a friggin marketing illusion that was dreamt up years ago and is finally being realized now. People buy the hype and gobuy the gear assuming the "fat lines" are everywhere, in every neighborhood and in every chunk of woods. It isn't the case. FR isn't about being free (aka not having to work) it's about feeling free.
Dosen't Nintendo have a FR game out that would meet this criteria ;)

Yeah Couch, we pedalled our asses off last week looking for some good freeride spots in Rutland. Knuck and I probably put in about 20 miles over a couple of hours. Found nothing but bugs, swamps and darkness.

Well the main problem AA is that 99% of the freeriders are up in the NS area or NH. Lynn is 2 hours from me. That's too far of a ride as far as I'm concerned. Also, I'm done with BS. They are cool guys, but all their stuff is in P :-Xrtsmouth, NH also 2 hours away. You might say that 2 hours is not far, but for an after work ride it is. I'm trying man. I'm hookin up with Rabid Dawgee, Kevin Brody, and Jimmy 2X. I just know there is more stuff out there to be found so I want people to get motivated. I mean there seems to be a lack of "stepping it up" in this state. I mean I'm looking at hucks or potential hucks all the time. Every where I go I see stuff, it's an obsession. I pedal. I pedal my ass off on the stinky. I'm slow, but I do it. It just pisses me off that more people aren't into this sport. I'd love to promote it and get more people into it, but I'm not a businessman. I'm an idiot who loves to ride and loves to huck. I've been all over the place this year. Nam, Franklin, Foxboro, Rutland, Green Hill Park, Groton, going to Purgatory with Kev, Goin to Lincoln with Rabid. I'm just looking for a spot to call my own that has what I'm looking for ya know. I've also last night found this thing in West Boyleston called the rail trail. It's basically a boring ass fire road to accomodate the wimpy ass masses, but my wife and I went and I had a blast. Theres potential hucks galore with a little massaging and bunch of flowey singletrack and it's 5 minutes from my house. I want to step up the freeriding though to the next level. I'm looking for the ultimate spot. You know, Jibbin, nice flowey lines, rails, chutes, berms, dj's etc and varieties of hucks. Not a 1' er and then a 40' er. I'd like to progress without killing myself. Seems like there's no in between. I'd like to get a freeride park going but I know any idea would get SHOT DOWN as this is MASSACHUSETTS the no fun state. I don't like to bitch man, it's not proactive, I'm just venting my frusterations with this state. I'll tell you what man. You get me the paperwork needed to change the sue me laws of this state and I'll go around and get the 1,000,000 signatures to abolish the stupid ******* laws this sorry as state has for the pro-sueing of landowners. I don't know how to do it. Anyhow, I'm gonna build some stuff out at this rail trail. If it gets chopped down, I'm gonna build it somewhere hidden. Why, cause 95% of the riding I've seen is just plain ass boring. I'm trying man, I really am. Imagine seeing something like pic below? Just imagine it. 3 hucks, one big, one medium, one small. Why aren't we allowed to have some simple **** like that? Whats the harm? Knuck

Knuckle,
WTF?!? I read your posts on BS and NEMBA, and all you do is complain about this and that! And how Massachusetts is the no fun state. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a positive post from you. Listen just as AA mentioned get out and network with local riders in your community. If you lucky you might just run into someone that will be willing to show you around, as long as your not so unenthusiastic about the riding to them as you are in these forums sometimes. If that doesn’t work, you can always get in your car on the weekend and drive to Lynn, the upper NShore or NH for some fun. Yeah you say your too far away but I’ve also noticed you’re from Worcester, the last time I checked it doesn’t take 2 hours to drive to Lynn. More like hour-to-hour fifteen, and that’s driving the speed limit. What wrong with that? It beats riding your so-called boring trails, but you know what? The trails no matter where you ride are as fun as you make them. I can already envision you’re post after an epic free ride…. Man the place was great, but I suck, I couldn’t ride anything, blah, blah, blah, but you now what? We all have our shitty rides and we suck it up and get back in our saddle the next day or weekend and ride some more until we nail that drop or we make the climb through that rock garden. You obviously love to ride, so just ride and enjoy what you have! Keep in mind that there are other parts of this beautiful country that are worse off then we are. We’ve got some of the best mountain biking around. So suck it up and stop your bitchin. Just consider all your flat fire road, single track riding additional training for when you finally find that spot you can call your own. And when you find that spot you’ll at some point want to put a few miles back in on those so-called boring single-track trails. Just be a little more optimistic about what you’ve got around you is all I ask.

JFG,
You will soon learn to ignore Knuckles rants. He still hasnt realized that he lives in one of the hot-beds of cycling.
