Hey folks,
It was great riding with the intermediate crew. Thanks for taking us out, justbill. And thanks to Mike and his crew for showing us the "good" trails.
Here's some random photos of the action, let me know if you want me to e-mail bigger versions. And I'd love to see some of the other photos, especially the one showing my determination (abject terror) going down the stairs.
The photos can be seen at:

Take care, see you on the trails,

Great Photos Chris,
Thanks for putting up on the web so quickly. What a fantastic weekend! Great people, great comraderie, great trails, great food and a great ride with our group and the NH "locals" around the intermediate loop and other trails!
It was also great to put real names and faces to so many NEMBA forum posters. I think a great time was had by all!
Looking forward to the doing another NEMBA weekend event in the not too distant future.
One last comment, before I end this post: Justbill, I can't thank you enough sir! You are one kindhearted gentleman and one mean camp setter-upper, cook, and ride guide!! You Da Man Bill! ;D
Take care,
Mark

Well the Roast & ride was a blast. The only bummer for me was backing my camper into a tree with a large audience in "camp JustBill" who would have thought there would be so many trees in a state park? The riding was great, the food was really good and it was fun to be able to hang with the rest of the forum folks in real life. My wife also had a blast, she enjoyed riding with the intermediate crew and getting to meet everyone.
I think that JustBill needs to change his name to "Uncle Bill" He is the host with most. Ive never seen such a display of cooking, cleaning, hopitality and general campsite management.

What's the deal with the "No bicycles" sign? LOL

The weather was ok. Friday night we had heavy rain. Saturday it stopped raining but remained very humid and the weather on Sunday was great. Given all the rain we had Friday night the main loop that was arrowed for the event was impressively dry on Saturday.
I also have to thank Bill for all the work that he did to help make this an excellent weekend. The food was great at Camp Bill.

Glad things went well. Sorry I couldn't be there.
Don't forget that HUGE thanks should go to Dave Swift. He put in hundreds of hours of planning to make this event happen, and faced and solved lots of problems to pull off this event.

It started raining hard on Friday nite around 8pm, but tarps kept us dry while we ate Bills excellent cooking, when the fire went out we went to bed, it rained pretty hard all nite. Saturday's weather was just fine! I rode in the fast group (AA, Radair, Mike, Z and Joe), I ate way too much bacon to ride comfortably at that pace! It was muggy & damp but the trails were in good shape, it defiantly was not a mud fest. I think we started the ride at 9:45 and finished at 1:30. Saturday night weather was great, and a couple of us went for a quick ride at dusk after the Piggy Roast. Sunday morning ride was the best! Sunny, fast, long! SloMoJo destroyed his rear derailleur and installed a new one (that was in his pack) in record time! The whole weekend was a great time, I'm ready to do it again!
Oh yeah, THANKS DAVE SWIFT! and everyone who helped pull off this event!

Thanks David Swift!! ;D 8)
SloMo... Where did you break your derailleur? ??? Did you guys make it onto the Carr Ridge trail Sunday morning? It's definitely one of the best there. All rocky singletrack and a nice stairway to ride down at the end.

Great Event! Great Group of People! Good Job Dave! Great riding. Nice work to NEMBA locals and the BB trail ambassador for marking all the loops. It was nice to be reminded of the technical singletrack that exists there.
I had duties at the registration booth in the morning but still managed to get in all of the big loop. It was great...That Catamount Mt. Trail was a nice finish. I rode with Chris G. who I had met there....Chris, if you're out there I hope you weren't too spent for your EFTA race on Sunday... ;)
Good to meet some of the forum folks and other NEMBAites...and of course Thanks to JustBill for his hospitality saturday evening at his (and McAskalot's) campsite. Some good laughs were had...
I'll post some pics when I have a chance.

I was waiting for that one!
That could have been the part of boardwalk where Hal, who was riding in front of us, hit a rut and went into the swampy drink up to his thighs! :o :o
Without enough momentum those boardwalk sections were very sketchy to say the least.
I must confess to wimping out in a few spots, but I did feel good when I cleared one of the last long downhill sections of the trail we intermediates were riding.
AA's wife, Susan, kicks arse out there on the trail and the NH Locals that we rode with a bit were also very good and very friendly. Hardtail Steve, a guy name Kirk, Chris, SloMoJo (he needs a more appropriate username cuz he can ride and climb with the best of them!), Hal, Justbill, and I think a few others from time to time were a part of our group.
It was a helluva lotta fun and I returned to the pig roast in one piece so I was a happy man.
Gungy, are you recovered from your surgery and out riding now? If so, awesome. If not, I'm sure it's only a matter of days and weeks. Hope to see you on the trails this summer and I'll do my best to pedal as much as possible too. ;)

You gotta show your fellow CT boy some support. From what I hear Mark did just fine out there. Plus, in that photo it looks he was being chivalrous to AA's wiser and wittier better half ;D while AA was off hammering on another ride...or maybe he was backing the camper into something...

I must admit that I did chicken out in a few spots where I wish I would have gotten up the gumption to "go for it." I would love to get back up there again sometime to ride much of the loop that our group took so that I can try to tackle some of the sections that I decided not to go for.
All I know is that I had a blast out there, and that I'm done packing for the day and I'm off to hit the Reservoir to ride with IAB and MBC! ;D ;D
NOO, It was a pleasure to meet you sir! I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your first Father's Day!! ;D
Is that tour of Ft. Rock still on the table? My pace isn't nearly as quick as yours but I'd still love to visit your "home turf" so to speak and ride.
Cheers,
Mark

What an excellent event! It was definitely a great time to meet & ride with you guys. justbill pulled off the most amazing meals I've ever eaten on a camping trip - thank you Bill! Great hospitality, great guy.
Jim & Cathy Haagen-Smit, the NorCal IMBA reps, were very impressive on their full-suspension tandem. They apparently rode down the stone steps on the Ledge Trail - I would have loved to have seen it! Jim said he also went over the handlebars for the first time on the tandem - had to be a excellent crash! Very nice people, too. I think they had a great time.
Both group rides I did were excellent. The 6 of us on Saturday were well matched and there was no waiting around or whining. AA showed his stuff by single speeding the advanced route - my skinny quads would not have accepted the punishment he was giving his. Z & Todd kept mumbling something about too much bacon, but it didn't show in their riding.
Sunday's ride was also really good. SloMoJo had a new derailleur installed and tuned by the time I realized someone had a mechanical and returned to the group! Other than the Chipmunk Trail, the route selection was quite fun.
Hope to hook up with you all again this summer. Keep in mind our trail building weekend on August 16 & 17. An IMBA trail care crew will be in town, the work should be relatively light (compared to last year's slave-fest), the beer will be cold, and the riding will be superb. I promise.
Big thanks to David Swift & crew for successfully pulling off such a great event.

Totally agree, that was an awesome time. Bill, I have to add my kudos, you are the man. :-*
And Dave Swift and company, the loops you laid out were superb! I am not sure if the root sizes fell exactly within the specifications that I requested ;) but I was really impressed how you laid out three perfect nested loops all with the right length, appropriate difficulty, and all going by the patrol shack. The advanced loop was totally a blast! And the food was dee-lish. Sunday we rode most of the other trails we missed Saturday, and that was fun, too.
No rain at bear Brook on Saturday! Amazing! (Condolences to those that bailed because the weather forecast redicted rain. You missed a good time.)
I will concur with Radair that our ride gang was an awesome fit. Perfect pace, good laughs, and no whining. Also, I'll vouch that the climb up the Lynx trail and lots of bacon (and southwestern black beans!) don't mix.
Oh yeah... AA, I can give you lessons for driving in the trees. First, you drink lots of Hornitos. Then, you head out towards to ball field to avoid the campsites. Next, you swerve around the trees as many times as necessary until you see your tent in front of you. Finally, you stop. (Not that I would know. Or remember, anyway!) But I've heard the technique works.
We'll have to do another camping trip again. Bill, what's your schedule like for the rest of the summer? ;D
Actually.... you guys are all going up for the White Mountains weekend Aug 16-17, right? Well, it's a date! I am looking forward to it.
Good times...

Hiya Gang,
I'm a little late, since I have been down the Cape chasing the striped bass on the kayak. Big fun.
Yup, the R&R was great. Real treat to meet all you good folks. Enjoyed the rides, the laughs, the beauty of Bear Brook park.
Yes, I have had a little practice changing derailers. It's sort of my trademake to bust em. ::)
The skeeters were so big I thought they were hummingbirds at first.
I still chuckle at the classic line Steve gave on the Sunday morning ride. "I see why they call it the Chipmunk trail....you have to be nuts to ride it!" ;D
Till next time, friends.

Hiya NH..
I got 4 stripers 1st day and 5 second day. Only fished 3 hours each day, so I have not really hit them great yet.
I'm going back for a couple more days this week. I could not really score with good weather....so now I'll try in nasty weather. More rain....what else is new? :-\

WOW!
I had to read that a couple times. I thought it said STRIPPERS!!
Either way it's impressive. O.K. so, maybe 9 Strippers in 2 days is a little more inpressive than 9 stripers in 2 days.
