Got "busted" last after riding back to True Wheels from Otis last Sunday. This big military dude followed us in a Hum-V like vehicle back to our car and told us we had one warning, and if he found us again he'd call the state police.
I have never heard of anyone getting stopped there before. When we tried to get clarification on what exactly he didn't like, it did not seem like Otis as a whole was a problem, according to him. It was a part of the link from True Wheels to the main trails, maybe? The only problem was, I don't know the area so what he said didn't make sense to me...
Sorry I can't be more helpful, but does anyone else know what the deal is there? Has anyone else heard of people being stopped?
(Things must be a lot tighter since the war!)

I have been stopped with others in Otis, but just after 9/11, try starting futher south of Rte. 151 on the left by the dirt pile. Parts of Otis are on government land and part I believe are town forest. Good luck. ;)

I was changing in my car in the hunting club's lot after an extended ride when a Hummer blocked me in and and a couple of guys with M16's in hand got in front and behind my car. Scared the sh|t out of me.
They said sure I can park there and it' ok to ride, but I can't sit in my car. I was only there for 5 mins. but I didn't feel like arguing the fine-points.
Next time I'll change quicker!

What I believe that you have going on up there is a quasi-militia formed by the power utility companies in response to terrorist threat concerns and the whole homeland security thing. I know that a chief of plant security for Connecticut Natural Gas, amongst others are out in that general area. Best to be cautious. BTW - any of you manage to obtain creditials or the like from these guys?

As a followup to my post yesterday, I was mistaken to associate these incidents directly with Homeland Security. After speaking with my pal as CNG, the reason cited for the security details in Western Mass has to do with the labor strike against the local utility company, Berkshire ... The utility company is very concerned about potential strikers who may do harm to service and services. Folks who have encountered security details have likely been in the vicinity of power producing or distribution equipment or facilities.
