Hey, it's April 15th -- the Fells and Lynn Woods are supposed to open for the season today. Does anyone know what the trail conditions are? I'm hoping to get a quick ride in after work, probably the Fells loop if it's dry.

I also plan on heading over for a short ride after work today but I would recommend that everybody use common sense and stay of trails that are wet or muddy. If it is too muddy when you get on the trail, turn around and do a road ride or stay on the fire roads, which should be more stable and better drained.
Remember, early season mud is not the same as summer mud. Summer mud is usually a surface phenomenon. Spring mud goes much deeper. This happens because the winter frost loosens up the soil as the water expands and in the spring when it thaws, those voids remain full of water. It takes several weeks and some dry conditions for all those voids to drain and for the soil to compact. Once the soil is compact again, water and mud go back to being a surface problem but until that happens, any user activity will cause serious damage to the surface resulting in poor drainage, trail widening and other nasty things we all hate to see.
Have fun in the woods but lets be patient in the areas that need a little more time.

Rode Lynn Woods yesterday, and besides the typical spots that are usually muddy, it was fine.
Your best bet is the Cape... I couldn't believe it was BONE DRY last Sunday, the day after 3 inches of rain. That place is amazing for drainage!
