Anyone going to be up at Sunday River for the Bust 'n Burn Parrothead weekend? It's this coming weekend and has the pond skimming, bumps competition and general mayhem and debauchery. Many margatitas for sure ;)
Anyone in?

I am stunned. Buffett cover bands?!?! Plural ???
I cannot believe there would even be one!
Every day life just continues to throw out great mysteries. I will never understand the need for religion, how to be a chess grand master, and why there is a Jimmy Buffett subculture. Maybe there is a gene.

I think Buffet, his music and his persona simply portrays a lifestyle that many, many folks dream of. Warm tropical beaches, margaritas and the troubles and cares fade away.
Sort of like the Dead and how they symbolize, um, well, dirty, ugly hand made wool sweaters and tie-dyed shirts and the smelly hairy hippies that wear them ;)

I dream of a great battle, played out on the fields of some great outdoor dual-staged musical venue to save the world. The entire population has died except for the drug intoxicated, hemp-clothing clad, Deadheads wielding bongs and dangerous bead-hurling weapons who are forced to square off against Hawaiian shirt and sandal clad drunkard airheads wielding marguaritas and frisbees for control of the world.
The Parrotheads break out first and erupt with a parry of flying discs to the pill-popping enemy. Of course, the Deadheads watch mesmerized. Many of them who are absolutely tripping their brains out run for the hills... and run and run and run and run and run and run and... The rest return the volley by launching multicolored beads laced with traces of LSD and THC. The Parrotheads laugh... and dance and forget about the battle for the time being because Buffett has just begun to play his followers' great favorite, Cheeseburger in Paradise.
The Deadheads suddenly become angry and confused. What is this... this... "music"?!?!?! Masses of hairy women begin tearing at their ears. Bongs and spliffs are dropped and forgotten as this attack disorients most of the tripping Deadhead crowd. Those just under the influence of pot suddenly take to arms. Real weapons emerge as alligator clips and workboots appear in the resin-laden hands of throngs of Deadheads. They begin to march in unison towards their enemy... until the Dead (no longer the Grateful Dead without their fallen hero in lead) launch into some rendition of some song which is never really determined but goes on, and on, and on, and on for about 45 minutes, thus holding and calming the masses of followers.
With each group mesmerized by their respective musical messiahs, peace reigns supreme.
Unfortunately, they all hung out too long and forgot about the Ozfest crowd that was to take over the next night. It was a slaughter as violent heavy metal enthusiasts tore through every intoxicated straggler, stealing all of their drugs and booze and leaving the field strewn with the beaten corpses of the many.
And the world was saved thanks to real music.

I quit hooch three years ago. Yet, even when I was smoking the stuff, I still didn't like the Dead and Buffett. I think if there must be a gene for homosexuality, then there must be different ones to enjoy certain music; e.g., a Jimmy Buffett gene or a country-western gene or a Yanni gene, even an Elvis Costello or The Ramones gene, because they certainly qualify for shitty music in my book.
And why would think that a mountain sport event and and Parrothad Festival would make people go whoopie, I'm there? Ok, maybe ONE tribute band, but several? YOU CAN'T AVOID IT!!!!! At least have SOMETHING different, no?It reminds me of the most recent Mountain Bike Day at Blue Hills when some moron thought it would be a good idea to put a single Bob Marley track on continuous replay. Christ, I couldn't get that frigging song out of my head for a week, and I hate Marley music!
