Cross post from General...

I rode over at the Snip this morning. My usual riding day is Sunday, but with the rain coming I figured today was my best shot at a ride, I love my wife.

The good news: About 90% of the trails are completely rideable, solid, no water, no mud. The motorcycles have been out and have made the deep ruts, so honestly you're not going to do much worse damage with your bike.

The bad news: the 10% that isn't rideable is all close to the Gulf Road parking lot. I did a lot of walking on that end to avoid the soft stuff. If possible start off of Hopkins Road and stay away from Soapstone Mountain. The dirt roads are absolutely terrible. Nice that we worry so much about wrecking stuff, yet the four wheel drive trucks have at it.

On the trails most of the rocks are covered in a nice algae patina which made it a good idea to avoid them at all costs. I landed on my a$$ a couple of times. If you do ride over rocks don't brake, pedal or steer you'll be ok. One other thing - the leaves seemed to have been nicely preserved by all the snow this year. Most of the trails are covered in uncomposted leaves. Made it more like a late fall ride than an early spring ride.

Overall a great ride, though rather short (11 miles) and slow (5.8 mph avg).

2003 has finally begun.
