So last night, given that the trails are still a no go, I decide to mix it up with the SS on the pavement. Normal deal, 5:45PM start at my place, attendants are PK, AA, 2stroke, MrsCouch and I.
I gotta say, using a SS-MTB for road work is a HOOT! We ripped off 25.5 miles at an average of about 14 mph. We were spinning like gerbils at times for long stretches. The course took us fromk Bedford->Lexington->Arlington via the bike path and some side roads. In Arlington we shot up Menotomy St (and I mean up). That ~1/4 mile hill is a leg buster on the SS. PK proceeded to flat at the bottom and we left him for dead.
From there we finished climbing up the the water tower and then shot by Belmont Hill, down Prospect (I think) to RT60 Belmont. We then climbed back out on Concord Ave -> Spring St Lexington and back around.
Some killer hill climbs and some sickly long stretches of the SS mantra 4-revs-spin-at-max/glide/4-revs-spin-at-max/glide at an average speed of about 18 mph. Whoof!
Next week, ever more SS torture. Stay tuned!
