I went on a recon mission this afternoon to check out the conditions at Big River. They were a lot different than the 12" deep mud that I expected. The word of the day is ice. Lots of ice. I started on burnt sawmill and headed out to the left over both of the "new" bridges that were repaired this past year to the fireroad after the second bridge. The entire trail was covered with ice. There is still some snow about 3" deep in some spots. There wasn't much dirt showing. What was showing was about 1/2 mud. I think it is going to be a while at Big River. You may give it a shot with studs but even that doesn't look like much fun. Just too much ice. I wouldn't do it for safety sake even with studs.

Give it another couple of weeks. I did see some guys riding out there but I wouldn't do it.
